Adding new features for SugarMD Super Berberine

Dr. Ahmet Ergin, MD, FACE, CDCES, ECNU, Founder, SugarMDs LLC

If you have come across the FDA recall notice associated with SugarMD, I want to address it directly and give you the full picture.
In 2023, the FDA identified the presence of glyburide and metformin, two prescription diabetes medications, in one specific lot of our Advanced Glucose Support supplement (Lot #22165-003). As soon as this came to our attention, we issued a voluntary recall, notified all affected customers directly, and offered full refunds to everyone involved. We did not wait to be asked.

Why We Acted Without Delay

As a physician, patient safety is the foundation of everything I do. That principle applies to my clinical practice and it applies equally to every product I put my name on. The moment there was any question about the safety of that batch, the decision was clear. We cooperated fully with the FDA, reviewed every aspect of our sourcing and manufacturing, and took complete accountability for what happened.

What Caused It and What We Changed

The affected lot was manufactured in a facility that also produced prescription metformin products. Cross-contamination between products is a documented risk in shared manufacturing environments, even under controlled conditions. Once we understood the root cause, we made significant changes:

Moved to facilities with stricter product separation standards

Expanded third-party testing across all products

Implemented triple-phase quality screening covering raw materials, the production process, and final batch release

What the Recall Did Not Affect

Lot #22165-003 was the only batch involved. No other SugarMD product, including Super Berberine, Neuropathy Support, or any other supplement in our current line, was part of this recall. All recalled units have been accounted for and are no longer in circulation.

Where SugarMD Stands Today

Every current SugarMD product is third-party tested, GMP certified, and held to a higher standard than what existed before 2023. I use these products in my own clinical practice and recommend them to my patients. My name is on every bottle and that carries a responsibility I take seriously every day.

If the recall raised questions for you, that is completely reasonable. I hope this statement, along with the video above, gives you the clarity you are looking for. For any further questions, please reach out to us directly.
